Child development center to consolidate all locations at new building

(St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 19, 2016) Hilliker Corporation, a St. Louis owned and managed commercial real estate company, recently sold an office and warehouse space to a local child development community.

Urban Sprouts Child Development Center purchased a more than 14,000-square-foot building at 6757 Olive Blvd. in University City for $405,000. The site was the former manufacturing space of McCarthy Spice & Blends, a spice and seasonings company with retail operations still located at 8501 Delport Dr. in Overland.

Renovations for the new Urban Sprouts’ building will take place in two phases and be completed by Aug. of 2017. The first $2.2 million phase includes 11 classrooms with two art studio study, or atelier, rooms plus an interactive kitchen for cooking. The second $1.1 million phase includes classrooms for college level courses that Urban Sprouts hosts for St. Louis Community College. Additional renovations include a natural play area, as well as an outdoor garden.

Urban Sprouts teaches the Reggio Emilia method where all children are active participants in their own learning. The company currently has a 2,600-square-foot location at 941 Midland in University City and a 3,600-square-foot center at 9120 Olive Blvd. in Olivette. Once the new building is totally renovated, these two centers will be consolidated.

Urban Sprouts, which was founded in 2009 and has a total of 21 teachers and staff, currently serves a combined 88 children ranging from infants to pre-K. The Center will add 50 spaces at their new facility to make the grand total of 128 children served. Their website is http://www.urbansproutscdc.org.

Hilliker Corporation’s Brendan O’Brien represented the seller, Edward and Margaret McCarthy and Rome West Realty’s agent Susan Sauer represented the buyer, Urban Sprouts.
