(August 26, 2025) Hilliker Corporation’s broker, Patrick T. McKay, has brokered the sale of one of the last remaining vestiges of historic St. Louis.
Long before most homes had indoor plumbing with hot water, the City of St. Louis erected public bathhouses to meet the needs of its residents. For just five cents for children or ten cents for adults, people could visit one of six public bathhouses across the city.
The last to be built—Municipal Bath House No. 6 at 1120 St. Louis Avenue—has just changed hands to a local developer active in rehabbing homes and apartments in the Old North neighborhood. Broker Patrick McKay represented both the buyer and the seller in this transaction, drawing on his proven track record of pairing historic properties with the right buyers.
“Most of the old remnants and relics had previously been removed from the building,” McKay noted, “and the only glimpse into its past is the beautiful façade with the prominent name as well as the cashier’s cage just inside the front door.”
Decommissioned in the early 1960s, the building later served as warehouse and shop space for a variety of businesses. With Hilliker’s leading presence in the St. Louis commercial real estate market, it is especially meaningful to broker the sale of such an iconic property—and to see it preserved in its original condition.
